How to Search for a Product by Its Barcode
Scan an EAN, JAN, or UPC product barcode with your iPhone and search for the item right away. Barcode Reader X also keeps the codes in your history.
In a store, you often want to know what a product is or what it costs elsewhere. Scanning the barcode on the package lets you search with that number directly.
Product Barcode Types
Most retail products carry an EAN or UPC barcode.

How to Search with Barcode Reader X
With the iPhone app Barcode Reader X, a scanned code can be handed to a search or shopping service.
- Scan the product barcode
- Tap the blue circle button to save it to history
- Tap the info button in the list to open the details
- Pick a service under Search or Shopping
Choose the Services You Want
Open Settings, then “Customize services” to turn shopping services on or off. The defaults follow your region and language.
Compare Later Using History
Scanned product codes stay in your history, so you can scan several items in a row and review them afterward.
Notes
- Results come from each service, and some products may not be listed
- Follow store rules about using your phone camera inside the store
